'Funniest comedy ever' is leaving Netflix in just days (2025)

Fans are calling this comedy "One of the best shows to ever be on TV" - but all eight series are about to leave Netflix

This American comedy-drama made waves in the 2000s, making its way onto many TV fans' lists of their favourite shows - but viewers don't have much time left to watch it. With an impressive eight-season run, Psych follows the life of a young crime consultant, Shawn Spencer, played by James Roday, who works for the Santa Barbara Police Department.

With his gifted observational and memory skills, Shawn manages to trick his colleagues into believing he is, in fact, psychic. Alongside Shawn is his intelligent best friend and reluctant accomplice Burton Guster, played by Emmy-nominated actor Dulé Hill.

The pair find themselves tied up in all kinds of unusual situations as they fight crime together, with each episode typically introducing a new and complicated case. The show won widespread acclaim throughout its eight years on air.

A viewer took to Rotten Tomatoes to write: "Psych is probably the funniest mystery comedy there is (not that there's a large amount of competition). Lead Sean Spencer (James Roday) is such a delightfully nonchalant wisecracker. The writers have found the right spot character-wise for Detective Lassiter."

Another audience member wrote: "I've loved each series of this. It's been consistently hilarious, superbly plotted and with a fantastic cast of lovable characters, all played beautifully by the superb cast. Brilliant."

Due to his unusual skills, the police become suspicious of Shawn and suggest he may be more than he seems. To avoid being sent down, he convinces his colleagues that he has psychic powers - but is warned that if it turns out he's lying he'll end up on the wrong side of the law.

In order to establish some truth in his lie, Spencer establishes a psychic detective agency, where he works as an outside consultant to the police. These unusual 'powers' provide for a lot of comedic and unique situations where he is faced with somehow turning real-life clues into mystical theories.

A fan described the programme as: "One of the best shows to ever be on TV". Another wrote: "You won't find a funnier show that's always fresh and original despite so many seasons and movies. Gus and Shawn have so much chemistry, which makes it that much better; the whole cast does."

First released in 2006, the hit series was later followed by spin-off shows, a movie remake and even a musical. Throughout its impressive run, the series received multiple Emmy Award nominations before drawing to a close with its finale in 2014.

Many viewers have praised the second season of the show in particular, hailing it as some of "the best comedy" on TV.
